Proposed V8 regs - draft

These are the V8 specific regs young Rob came up with and they look good to me. The question of hubs is a curly one here so I like the solution -

  1. Body
Modifications to aid lowering allowed including shaving of posts and sanding of wheel arches allowed.
  2. Chassis
No modifications allowed to the fundimental chassis design. Ie changes to motor position or axle position.

Edges may be trimmed and posts shaved to allow lowering of body. Holes may be opened to allow body to rock.
  3. Gears
    Std only.
  4. Wheels/Hubs
Plastic only,Standard or Other brand (equivilant size only?). Trimming of hub length allowed to aid lowering of body.
  5. Tyres
    Front Std
    Rear Std or MJK's
  6. Guides
Standard or Ninco (not Pro race) (To promote better racing)

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I thought this class was standard hubs only as 90% voted to keep it that way.

After pulling my Skaife VE apart last night - I think there's another "easy" fix that will allow lowering effectively. Trimming the front wheels/hubs as they are wider thand than body itself. Would this be and acceptable/allowable mod, or does anyone else have a suggestion?smile

I had to shorten the hub's on my VE (see AUSLOT) but i'm using Ninco rim's so doe's that make my car illegal?

I'd have to say so cos the poll shows over 90% want standard hubs/gears

And when did the Ninco guide become an option, it is not an easy swap on the newer cars with the screw in guide as it would require modifying the chassis which would then make the car illegal.

As it says at the top - its a draft.  I missed the bit about guides cos I dont change them on any car.  Actaully never seen it done. Anyway - its gone

As for the wheels I know the poll said standard and i know the poll said no to alloys but todays V8s all run just about the same hubs which dont match on the model versions of all bar the horribledon driven by the soon(hopefully) to be retired MS.  The poll was up before the new Horribledon had reached the hands of those who tinker.  Having tinkered I listened. if enough say no ( dont wanna do another bloody poll) then no it is or of course we could always make an executive decision rather than be democratic.  If it comes to a democratic vote then I vote for an executive decision smile

The new "horribledon" as you call it has the same 5 spoke wheels as all the other V8's.

I dont know how it can be perceived an advantage if I have a 5 spoke or 10 spoke hub on a car if its made of plastic and of the same width and diameter?

Remember this is a draft and its been put up for discussion as is all the other classes. And if it comes down to a committee decision then fine so be it.

I note the draft reg states rims/hubs, does this allow me to do a modification to the existing rims/hubs to incorporate a more realistic "insert" into the stock hub?

The problem is that I don't think anyone else makes the same size rims as the Scalextric V8's which is probably why MJK make a specific tyre for the V8's.  If there are rims out there that look like what the real V8's are using and are the same width and diameter as the Scalextric ones then tell me where I can get some.

Using for example Ninco rims which are a smaller diameter, this would allow the  chassis to be lowered and allow the body to be lower which would in effect lower the centre of gravity of the whole car which would be an advantage.

What doe's it matter if the wheel diameter or width is 2 or 3 thou different from original??
On our home track's how much differance is it going to make to car speed and handling and can anyone measure that differance ? i doubt it.

The Scaley rims measure 0.611 inch, the Ninco measures 0.584...

Basically if i true my tyre's more than the next guy i have changed the diameter..

Fair point Dave... I don't know if the difference could be measured.. not by my driving anyway!

OK
Iv'e got no feel for this issue re wheels.

We have just about all said standard wheels yet the spector of replacing hubs to look like the real thing has been raised so I may as well ask the question officially - Please be quick and answer the polls reall allowing change in hub style for V8
