60-70's Le mans

Well had a quick look at some runners for the weekend, my Gt40 looks ready to strip another gear, I think either the chassis flexes too much or the motor holder allow to much rocking.
So I'm in the market for something else, the list show other manufactures than Fly (haven't been inpressed with them) was there a reason everyone runs crappy Fly, or will something else be competative?

Hi Glenn,

Pretty sure Stevie S got his Scaley Chapparal 2F going quite smooth and as for me, I'm running the Chevron as it's light and short and darts pretty quick. With a little weight in front of each rear wheel (about 2g) and MJK's, she sticks like the praverbial!, unless "I" deslot her for a reason of course!.....

Haven't had much to do with the others so can't comment there. Have stuck with what I've got.

Hope this helps ?

I'm gonna have to bring a smorgaboard and choose on the day - I have (all Fly): Ferrari 512, Porsche 917k x 2, Chevron, Porsche 908. My Lola is out of action as it's about to strip the teeth of the spur gear. I have a Slot It replacement axle kit, but want to do the same as Shane L has done with his car/s.

You'll have to show me how you do it Shane! (wheels/hubs inserted in Slot It wheels)

Yes I do have that, never seemed to be able to get it running as fast as the GT40, (wel at Geds anyway).
I've also noticed tonight plenty of axle slop in the rear bearings.
Maybe I should look at a Scaley Gt40

Glenn,
In general the Fly's are easier to set up, the GT40 is a different chassis design from the others so may take a little more to set up. If the gear is about to go it could be a chance to upgrade to a Slot it or similar, you won't strip one of them in a hurry.

Scalextric cars in this class are smooth but just seem to be a little off the pace compared with the Fly's

I put the Revell cars in because they fitted into the class. I didn't ever think the committee would leave them in. Don't know how they go compared to the others as I don't have any of them yet.
